Fall Childbirth Classes are starting! (Educational Fun)

I teach childbirth education classes that pull from many great resources such as Dr. Robert Bradley, the Lamaze Institute for Normal Birth, author Sheila Kitzinger and midwife Ina May Gaskin. We focus on breathing techniques and many different comfort techniques that I have learned from my experience attending births as a doula and a midwife assistant, both in the hospital setting and the home setting.Classes are $250 (per couple) for an 8 week course and includes multi-dimensional instruction, a ten chapter student notebook, a postpartum breastfeeding visit, and unlimited phone / email support.If you have given birth before, please feel free to pick and choose the classes you would like to be "refreshed" on, only $30 per class! Also ask about the discounts that are available for my current doula clients, active military and low income families.

Astronomy Star Gazing Event (Community Events)

The Colorado Springs Astronomical Society (CSAS) invites the public to a FREE telescope star gazing session on Friday, Sept 17, 2010, located at Bear Creek Park in the East Garden parking lot. Directions: follow HWY 24 west to 21st Ave. Turn south on 21st and follow it to Rio Grande. Turn east on Rio Grande and then turn right at the Bear Creek park sign. Follow the road to the bottom and then turn left and proceed east to the far end of the parking lot. CSAS club members setup their telescopes to allow attendees to view objects such as planets, galaxies, nebulas, star clusters and more! Join us and take a look into the constellations Scorpius and Sagittarius! Reservations are NOT needed. All ages are welcome! The event begins at Sunset, approximately 8:00P and lasts until 11:00 PM. Join the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society for the first annual International Observe the Moon Night. This event will be held on Sept 18, 2010 at Palmer Park near the ball field. Join members of the Gold Prospectors of Colorado as they present on the history of mining claims and discuss and demonstrate how claims are stacked. Workshop admission is $10.00, includes museum entry.
KOB Bikes for Schools Ride (Fundraiser)
Time: 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM
Location: Air Force Academy
Come ride with Kids on Bikes for our first annual fundraising ride! We are excited to utilize the Air Force Academy for the event headquarters and ride the most beautiful section of the Santa Fe Trail. There will be three mountain bike ride options (4 mile family, 16 mile and 24 mile routes) utilizing the trail system. After the rides, there will be a family picnic and lots of fun activities for the kids. All proceeds from the ride will benefit Kids on Bikes in bringing joy one bike at a time to children in the Pikes Peak Region. Pledges collected will help sponsor fifth grade students in low income school districts to earn bikes by reaching academic, behavior, and character development goals in our ABC’s program.

Raising a Champion Luncheon (Fundraiser)

Our first annual luncheon will raise much-needed funds to support and expand our mission. We are extremely excited to have Lance Armstrong’s mom Linda serve as the keynote speaker for the luncheon. Local cycling legend Chris Carmichael will also be in attendance as our special guest to introduce Linda. She will be discussing the tools she gave her son Lance, to succeed and the opportunity his bike provided. Growing up in the Dallas Projects and receiving her GED, Linda’s journey as a single parent will highlight the impact a bike provides a child and importance of kids being healthy and physically active. And you won’t want to miss plenty of stories about Lance that only a mother can tell!
